We are proud to hold a Gold award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme for our commitment to reducing our impact on the environment. It is this commitment which makes us continually review our footprint and evaluate new ways we can improve.
This year we have taken a number of steps to reduce our energy consumption, our waste and also our plastic use.
We are part of the ‘Plastic Free Charmouth’ committee, helping our village businesses and community to join our journey. Surfers Against Sewage award Plastic Free status to those businesses who have reduced their use of single-use plastics and made Eco choices for their business.
Because we already used very little single-use plastic, we challenged ourselves to really
look at what we did, to see where improvements could be made.
Individual shampoo and conditioner bottles in the rooms were the obvious choices, so we have stopped buying individual bottles and when they run out we will be replacing with re-fillable pump dispensers in the bathrooms for guest use.
Plastic milk portions are another area we have recently improved – with an individual thermos of fresh milk or dairy-free milk for our guests. It reduces waste and definitely improves our plastic-free status!
